Refinery additives - High performance for your process

Beside our product range for metalworking fluids and fuels we also offer products for the refinery industry. 

On the one hand we provide a shaping and release agent for the production of sulphur pastilles after the natural gas purification or in the process of oil purification (hydro treatment/ H2S).

On the other hand we offer defoamers which can be used in the process of gas sweetening.

Petroleum refinery by-product gases which are generated by various refinery processing operations as well as raw natural gas require a removal of certain contaminants, primarily hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and occasionally carbon dioxide (CO2). This is ususally being accomplished by amine gas treating - a process which often suffers from foaming.

Evonik Industries, having access to a vast platform of interface chemistry, provides two possible solutions hereto:

  • TEGO® Antifoam 1-85, a 10% active emulsion which is based on silicone oils and OMS (= organo-modified siloxanes) with a particularly wide application range of pH values between 3-13;
  • TEGO® Antifoam 1488, a 20% active emulsion completely based on OMS.

Both products guarantee excellent foam knock down properties and high long term efficiency.

TEGO® Sulpho is the Evonik brand for release agents used for the production of sulphur pastilles in refineries.

Our products guarantee high quality, hemispherically shaped sulphur pastilles that can easily be removed from the conveyor belts. The pastilles show less brittle edges and the amount of dust is being reduced.

In opposite to conventional release agents based on silicone oils, TEGO® Sulpho is more stable, does not cause corrosion to the belts and does not leave any sticky residues. Easier handling and less maintenance result in significant variable cost savings for the operator.


For many years Evonik has been successfully supplying the release agent TEGOPREN® 5863 – now branded as TEGO® Sulpho 1 – to the sulphur forming industry. Our product ensures that sulphur droplets can be released from steel belts efficiently. However, with increasing requirements to the process of sulphur pastillizing we have re-engineered our product. The innovation is a result of a unique partnership between Sandvik and Evonik.

By introducing TEGO® Sulpho 2 we set a new benchmark in terms of efficiency and performance for the industrial production of sulphur pastilles, offering improved handling and processing properties. Our new technology offers significant improvement of pastille quality. Their so called “Hamburger” shape has the benefit of fewer brittle edges and less dust.
